Surf Ski
Surf-ski racing uses similar craft to the racing skis used in surf lifesaving, however they are longer, lighter, and don't have a wave-breaker on the bow. This is because they are designed for longer distances and for catching runners rather than powering through white-water.
Surf-ski races can vary greatly in distance, although most are between 20km and 30km. They are usually held down-wind along the coast. It's an extremely popular sport in the southern hemisphere, and the world series is extremely high profile with great media coverage and excellent prize money. There are more and more races being held across Europe, and I'd like to compete in as many as possible when I can fit it in around my flat-water racing because my main skills are in the surf.
